Governments: Civilization 3 Complete V1.22
Click here for the discussion thread.

What you should know:
Town: 1-6 population
City: 7-12 population (requires fresh water or an aquaduct)
Metro: 12+ population (requires a hospital or the Shakespeare's Theatre wonder)

Hurry Method: you can either buy units or buildings (rate is 4 gold for a shield). Or you 'whip' people; 1 citizen for 20 shields.
Corruption: how much commerce and production is wasted.
War Weariness: When at war, your citizens can grow tired of the war and become unhappy. Or not.
Draft Rate: the number of citizens you can draft per turn.
Military Police Limit: Max number of units in a city that makes 1 unhappy citizen content.
Unit Support: number of units that cost you no money.

Rapdily Expanding with Raging Barbarians
By Unregistered at 2008-05-25 10:27
This came about as a result of one of the Conquests of the Month.

For those of you who play as warmongers or have gotten use to playing with barbarians on raging you probably already have your own sufficient strategies for dealing with raging barbarians *while* setting yourself up for later in the game. Still, discussion and thought might help. I don't know how this will work for Deity or Sid levels, although I have had success with this in Monarch and Emperor level games and some success with the time I tried it on Demi-god with this. I haven't tested my thoughts throughly, but from the games I've played the following might help. I primarily play as a builder without any barbarians at all, so dealing with raging barbarians has provided somewhat of a challenge for me. I feel sure there exist some weakness in my strategies somewhere, so please add on if you like.

Civilization III: Multi-Team Demogame II
By dutchfire at 2008-05-14 08:04

Never assume those you recruit know as much as you do.

In a nutshell, a Multi-Team Demo Game (MTDG) is

  • A game played with C3C or Conquests, patched to 1.22.
  • Played as a PBEM game.
  • With a common understanding of what is allowed and what is not allowed.
  • With no AI.
  • With humans only.
  • With some game parameters decided by the teams, some by the players as a group.
  • Grouped into different teams (some players come by recruitment of a team, others by luck of the draw).
  • Where each team has their own internal government (or lack of, if so desired).
  • And each team has their own separate forum for in-team discussions, that is private for that team (no snooping).
  • Where each team can be as truthful to the other teams as they see fit.
  • Where each team is to trying to out-play, out-wit and out-last all the others.

Multiplier Buildings: A Practical Primer
By Aabraxan at 2008-05-12 09:10
MULTIPLIER BUILDINGS: A PRACTICAL PRIMER

Some time ago, Tone was kind enough to explain the basics of multiplier buildings to me in this post. With his permission, I have reworked his original post in an attempt to create a strategy article.

One of the items that commonly confuses new players is the issue of multiplier buildings. Multiplier buildings commonly increase science or tax output by 50%, but are these gains simple or compound? If a market increases tax revenue by 50% and a library increases research by 50%, what happens if I build both? Do they enhance each other, or conflict with each other? How do I decide when to build one, the other, or both? This article is intended to help you unravel the mysteries of multiplier buildings and decide when and where they should be built.

Civilization III: Cheats
By Ginger_Ale at 2008-04-07 19:32

Civilization III didn't come with a built-in cheat mode, unlike Civilization II. Firaxis also hasn't released any official cheat codes for Civ3. The only known cheats are those tricks that exploit some bugs in the game and player-created cheat programs such as trainers and saved game editors.

Known Exploits

Here is a list of known exploits in Civilization III. Green is allowed when playing the Game of the Month (GOTM); red is disallowed. The first five exploits listed here are allowed.

Right of Passage Abuse

Make an agreement of Right of Passage, move your units to their main cities and attack them all at once.

Free Palace Jump

When disbanding your capitol your palace will appear in the biggest other city. Your former capitol can be rebuilt by the settler it created. This way you've moved you capitol for free.

Civilization III: Easter Eggs
By Ginger_Ale at 2008-04-06 14:15

Easter Eggs are "bonus" stuff hidden in the game for players to find. They are often for entertainment purposes or contain a reference to something.

This page lists all the known Civ3 easter eggs. As you can see below, Civ3 has more than 30 of them! Note that all the known easter eggs were added in original Civ3 or PTW.
