Boston: Sand sculpting festival, theme “Wonders of the World”

By | July 21, 2022

If you are a civ-fanatic, and living anywhere close to Boston, then you have one thing to do this weekend: Head to the Revere Beach sand scultping festival. From Friday to Sunday world-renowned sand sculpting artists will be working on their sculptures to win a grand price. The theme of the competition this year is “Wonders of the World”, which means this theme is obviously very dear to us. The example picture of the King Tut statue is taken from the Revere Beach facebook account, and we expect also to see many great pictures there and also on Twitter. We would obvioulsy love to see some pictures from a civ-fanatic, so ping us here if you saw your most beloved wonder being made there :).

Humankind – Scenario Challenge 01: Summer Heat

By | July 20, 2022

Amplitude, the developers of Humankind, present you the next event: The Summer heat challenge. While previous events were time-limited and aimed at specific temporary achievements, the devs have now changed this format, due to many players’ fear of missing out on the time-limited challenges. They now aim at a “Game Of The Month”-like challenge, where you get a set scenario, and try to achieve the highest score possible, competing with other players in the community. The summer heat challenge lets you play on a standard-size map on Empire level against 9 AIs, with a turn limit of 150. The real challenge is not to beat this game, but to be better than anyone else ;).

For more details read the full announcement at Games2Gether, or discuss this challenge in our forum here.

New indie game release: Fire & Maneuver

By | July 18, 2022

A new indie game with some interest to us has been released (early access): Fire & Maneuver.

This game is set in the victorian era, where you lead armies of e.g. the Ottoman Empire or of the Northern German Confederation against each other, in simultaneous turn-based battles.

This game is a pure war game, where you battle in a historical setting.

Due to the early access it is freely available though, and might be worth a look for us history buffs.

You can find this game on Steam here and discuss it in our forum here.

GameRant.com: Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is Long Overdue

By | July 17, 2022

The website GameRant has published an article about a topic, which is very dear to us, and which I think also feels very pressing to our community: The lack of Civ7.
Max Borman from GameRant complains, as we all do, that 2022 should be the year of Civ7, and that we’ve not gotten anything else in between.
An exceprt from the article:

Sid Meier’s Civilization is a huge franchise, so a seventh one is most likely on the way, but it feels like it should have been here by now. Civilization fans have been playing the sixth entry for close to six years without another game to bridge the gap. Recently, there have been more Civilization-like games releasing which have given fans something to turn to, but they do not compare to the classic franchise. Firaxis Games needs to confirm the creation of Civilization 7 at least, because it is long overdue.
