There are 28 World Wonders in Civ5, with a further three added by the Wonders of the Ancient World DLC. Each wonder provides a set ammount of culture, has an effect, and (With the exception of the Statue of Zeus) a set ammount of Great Person points for a certain great person. For example, The Colossus provides +1 Great Merchant point. Through the article, there are some abbreviations. If you are not familiar with them, you may wish to check This article in order to familiarise yourself with them.

In Civilization Revolution, there are 21 different world wonders that each provide unique and significant bonuses. While many of the various wonders have appeared in previous Civilization games, some, like the Magna Carta or the Trade Fair of Troyes, are completely new.

Wonders of the World are as important as ever. Civ3 has most of the Wonders in Civ2, plus several new ones. Some old wonders function in new ways. There is a brand new set of Wonders called "Small Wonders". While Great Wonders can be constructed only once in the world, Small Wonders can be built by every civilization. Another difference is that Great Wonders can be made obsolete by new technologies, Small Wonders cannot.
An interesting feature is Great Wonders are associated with one or more of the Civilization strengths. If the attributes of the Wonders you've completed match your Civ's strengths, you will trigger a Golden Age.
There are 24 Great Wonders and 10 Small Wonders.

Civilization IV has 41 World Wonders (including the seven religious shrines) and 14 National Wonders. Like in Civ3, World Wonders may be built by only one civilization and National Wonders (also known as small wonders) may be built by every civilization. The effects of small wonders are usually more city-specific and you can build at most two small wonders per city. There is no restriction on the number of World Wonders you can build in a city. Each time you finish building a World Wonder, there is a short movie clip showing the wonder being built.
Civilization IV also introduced a new class of buildings called Projects. A few examples are the Apollo Program and The Internet. The main difference between projects and wonders is that projects cannot be rushed in any way, while wonders can be rushed (by forest chopping, gold, etc). Projects are classified into World Projects and Team Projects.

This article is primarily inspired by Ision’s 4 Rules of Wonder Addiction Article, an excellent general guide to newbies on how to escape wonder addiction as a major hindrance to improving your Civ3 gaming ability. Seeing that, as far as I’m aware, no one has actually posted a thread like this, and that, perhaps worryingly, I have the time to write it, I thought a general reference guide to the function, value and strategies of all the great wonders could be useful for the Strategy Articles Forum or War Academy to have, as an expansion on the basic wonders information link on the Civfanatics main pages. I welcome anyone’s comments to the strategies I put forward in this thread (and any typo corrections) and will also update the entries to include other’s views if they make good sense to me and are phrased clearly enough.

Let me start by saying that I DO build wonders, and I think they are a wonderful part of this game. They create variety and lead to a myriad of different strategies. Having said that, had I not been a victim of 'wonder fixation' as a newbie I would have become a better player FAR faster. My learning curve to Monarch would have been reduced by months - my first Deity victory would not have taken over a dozen failed attempts.
New and inexperienced players (chieftain to regent) make certain common errors. High among these is "Wonder Fixation". I too was not exempt from this common newbie mistake. In my chieftain/warlord stage I would feel angry and cheated if I didn't pull the Pyramids or Great Library. My second city was ALWAYS a wonder city. Even in my warmonger games I would set aside 2 core cities to try and 'hog' the wonders. This habit has a negative 3-fold effect:
